Dear Family,
Well hello there again
everyone, it feels like I just talked to you yesterday, which means that yes,
just like mom and dad were saying the last 80 something days are going way too
fast. I can definitely feel it, my body has no concept of what day it is
anymore to be honest. I thought every day this last week was Saturday and
well... It wasn't. But now somehow it's Monday again. Who knew? Crazy stuff
indeed. So this week was great we got to go visit our buddy Iwakabe with the
baptismal date and went looking for less actives everywhere in our free time.
This past week we had
quite a few meetings and interesting things. So first we played sports and
stuff for Pday which was great, then we had super splits the next day, super
splits is where every person in the zone splits for one day. Literally no one
with the same companion as usual. It's an awesome opportunity to see new
teaching styles and things like that. I was with an Elder Fenton from Hurricane
Utah. And it was a very interesting split to say the least. We had somewhere
around 13 really good basically lessons on the street before dinner, but not
even one was contributed in by my splits companion... He would notice me start
a conversation and walk behind me, or walk to the closest window to fix his
hair and refused to share about the gospel when I forced him to speak.
Basically felt very alone. I did my best to help him but he just didn't want to
be there didn't want to be doing anything and it was a very
"interesting" time for sure. But maybe I helped, I guess I just have
to hope my example can help. Then the next day I gave a training in zone
meeting 3 times (everyone was rotating stations) about the hard baptismal
date/invitation. I made a cool HRD baptismal Date acronym and he training went
pretty well. So I've been put to work as district leader this last week.
So obviously I think you
all know it should be around that "transfer call" time right? Well I
got the call and I'm being transferred, to Kamiooka A. Lol our entire district
is staying the same the elders companionships are just getting switched, so I'm
going to Kamiooka elders A and Elder Hilton will take my place in B. Exact same
people for 2 transfers is something I've never seen before so pretty cool. Also
I will be a Zone Leader for the next transfer with Elder Dunn. Look at that? On
this second half of my mission God has really given me some good companions.
First Poff and now Elder Dunn. Good friends as companions has been awesome so
far so I'm excited for next transfer, it will be busy but really good.
And here's a cool
experience from the week. On Thursday we got the chance to do service. (those
chances are very few and far between in Japanese missions) so we went to one of the member's work (a
nursing home) and we sang to all of the people in the nursing home, they were
all way old and I had to speak way loud when explaining e hymns but the all
really liked it, and one guy, Kato San, told me my tie (one of the ones From
Easter or Christmas) was amazing, he really really liked it. It was way cool to
see how happy he was. He would sway to the hymns, clap, sing along, and at the
end he would just shout that we were so great at singing. As a result of us
making him so happy he decided to do something for us and gave us all a hand
folded paper crane, they weren't in anyway the most perfect cranes but they had
so much heart in them we all gladly received them. It was great!
That was basically my week
I feel and today we'll be going over to Yokohama to see some stuff. I become
zone leader Thursday though so that will be an intense day. Also Elder Dunn
isn't sure how fast he will hear about his uncles stuff or how much it is,
basically it's just an idea at this point so if you could look just for a
single for now that would be great! Also I'll just give it to him in August.
Also my legs are tired indeed, no time for rest so they are always a little
tight! Haha but hey the pleurisy has for the most part gone, I am sleeping
through the night now and I don't have to switch to the couch when the pleurisy
hits. Haha to answer dads question, our grandparents aren't real investigators
yet, they haven't accepted a lesson appointment yet but they plan on coming to
church every week from here on out! So we'll see. :)
Anyways I hope everyone
has an awesome week, love you guys! See you in 81 or 82 days!

And H is for How R is for Reason and D is for desire, I'll throw the note in the email real quick. Love you dad!
HRD Baptismal Date.
H - How H -
R - Reason R - 理由
D - Desire D - 望み
How - As missionaries it is our job to "to take a subject that is mysterious and great in itself, and to unfold and simplify it so that a child can understand it." (President John Taylor) In order to do this we must have a thorough understanding of it ourselves. We must understand the covenant we make with our Heavenly Father, the authority by which we receive and perform, and the example that Christ has shown for us. Then we have to share it with them.
Reason - Why did you get baptized? Why are you on a mission? What blessings have come since baptism? It is always important to share personal experiences, so let them know about yours. There are many blessings and reasons for baptism; going to heaven, being cleansed from sin, and following Christ's example. Share those blessings and reasons with them, and when inviting include those reasons in your invitation.
Desire - What is our desire for our investigators? "As a missionary you desire the salvation of souls." (PMG pg. 195) Investigators that thoroughly understand the elements discussed in the reason portion (blessings, reasons, and examples) and have come to even a slight understanding of how the Holy Ghost can teach them, will have the desire to receive baptism. It is our job to help them recognize that desire in themselves. This is where including things learned and discussed in the reason section will be vital to your invitation. We must help them see that the spiritual light and spiritual gifts they desire come through the gateway of baptism.
**What is a Baptismal Date? A Baptismal Date is a goal and a day to prepare for. Often times when we invite investigators to be baptized they don't understand the correct meaning of what we are asking them. We are asking them that if they know and feel it is right by a certain day to be baptized on that day. However, often when asking investigators this question they feel pressured to know immediately. If we take time to explain this to our investigators, they will be much more likely to make a date and work for it. Though it is vital to share with them the importance of preparing not just setting a goal.
