This week was a pretty
good week! We started to see some of the work from the beginning of the
transfer finally starting to show up. Elder Brummett is still little by little
getting better. And so far this week we have gotten 2 new investigators to work
with and they are both progressing right now! One is going very very slowly,
while the other is going much quicker I think. So there is some exciting stuff.
We had quite a few activities this week that kind of made it hard to find some
time to dendo, so we just had to talk to people in the passing time between
lessons or activities or things like that.
At the beginning of the
week we just got rejected hardcore. Literally on Monday not one person would
even stop to say hello. I'm not bragging or anything but usually I'm pretty
good at stopping people and starting a conversation it's after the beginning
whether they stay or not that changes, but that day no one would even stop. It
was a long day, but as usual if you work hard on the long days the next day is
usually full of miracles! So we tried to visit some old potential investigators
we found housing and nothing, but then we visited a lady that we referred to
the sisters, because she hadn't contacted them yet. And we basically taught her
an overview of the restoration, and found out when she lived in Seattle (home
stay) she met and received a bible from a member. She has kept the picture of
Christ he included in the bible on her fridge for at least 10 years, and now
we met her and she's starting to take the
lessons! Cool miracle! That was all during a fast as well so just goes to show
the miracles from fasting!
I went on splits this week
from Tuesday to Wednesday dinner time, with elder loi-on who I used to work
with in Takao. He's my zone leader now. So we went out on Wednesday and stopped
to talk to this kid in a park. He was 14 and his name sounds a lot like shore.
He'll actually be in Seattle for a week or two. But anyways he said he's always
wondered about churches and if there is a right one, so we sat on a bench with
him and taught him the whole restoration and invited him to pray and he offered
a beautiful prayer like he's been praying for years, and said he will keep
meeting when he gets back! So hopefully that goes well over in Hibarigaoka
(where we found him).
Thursday we taught two
lessons and boy were they long! Both were 2 hours long and the first one was
incredibly hard. We met Matsumoto San around 1:00 even though the lesson was
set for 2:00. And we tried to give him a church tour but he turned us down
halfway through and he said he likes just talking more, so then we spent the
next two hours trying to explain that God was our loving Heavenly Father and
that we can talk to him through prayer, but only if we do it in the right way
and to the right God. He went on some huge tangents like evolution, race,
commandments, and all kinds of other things. I'm not even really sure how I
kept up with his crazy Japanese. But at the end he prayed in the right way for
us, he wouldn't commit to do it at home on his time but he did it there and it
was good. Then at night we taught Yamamoto San. He was a way good guy and it
was a way fun lesson, and the member that was with us did a way good job and
basically it was like there were 3 missionaries there. So we taught him the
whole restoration as well and asked him to pray and everything and he wouldn't
because he doesn't want to join a church right now but slowly I think he will
go there. Elder Brummett and I really thought it was a good lesson though as
the spirit was pretty darn strong there so we were really happy about that. Yesterday
we taught a guy names Yuuki San. He's a way funny guy but it was a really good
lesson, he's so open to accepting truth and he really wants to know God. So we
met him at a park and taught him the restoration and he said a great prayer and
is really showing a lot of desire to learn. We are hopefully teaching him
tonight too so I'll let you know how that goes! Other than that we had a
questions of the soul activity done by president wada and our potential
investigator doctor Azuma came! He left right after but he really enjoyed it
and it was a great experience for him.
A funny thing from this
week was Friday we had a sports night and some people we met in the park came!
Do you remember the lion dance video? They all came! All 6 of them and did the
dance and added to it! I'll send it to you tomorrow because as of tomorrow, we
have Facebook back!! That was a big event this week! So be on the look out for
some metaphorical spiritual shines of the shoes! Also this week we had mission
president interviews but he came to every apartment with his wife to do them...
It was a really nice interview, and then Sister Wada decided to check our
bathroom........ I've never seen a Japanese lady make a face quite as disgusted
as that! It was quite humorous actually! But don't worry we are cleaning up!
Anyways, I'm glad everyone
is all safe and had fun camping! Maybe when I get back cleaning up will go a
bit smoother? Haha it was probably just fine! But next year I'm not sure if
I'll be back for it or not but I would love to go camping. It's weird to imagine
that I hit 1 year next month! It's freaky really. But anyways everyone stay
safe and have another great week! It was awesome to get all the pictures and
stuff! Kaiden is so dang big! Well I love you all!
Love,
Elder Gailey ゲイリー長老
P.s. I also will have
blogger (some random app) tomorrow so if you know of a way I can look up my
blog that way that would be much appreciated! How's the Japanese dad?
